Tasty Winter Greens

20 February 2010
Kale Recipe

During the Winter months, much of what comes in our Greenling box is dark, leafy greens.
Though we know how fantastic greens are for our health, neither A or I are huge fans. Nevertheless, I’ve been determined to find a go-to side recipe that we both dig. Something that can be added to pretty much any entree. Something we’ll actually eat and like instead of just endure.

Sweet Potato Biscuits

Sweet Potato Biscuits

I find it insanely coincidental that the night I sit down to write about the sweet potato biscuits I made a couple nights ago, The Secret Life of Bees was playing in the background.

Have you seen that movie?
Have you read the book?

Don’t you just want to move right in with August and May and June? Let them take care of you and teach you the ways of the world? With sweet potato biscuits sitting on the stove, ‘just in case you get hungry’.
Yeah…that would be the life (apart from all the racial bigotry and the emotionally damaged father, of course).

Winter Coleslaw?

coleslaw recipe

It seems like coleslaw should be a strictly Summer salad, right? Yeah, that’s what I thought, too. But then, the biggest head of cabbage I’ve ever seen arrived in my Greenling box. Add this to the cabbage I’m about to harvest from my garden (assuming it didn’t freeze in this arctic cold blast we’re enduring) and I have way more cabbage then I know what to do with.

It’s truly amazing how far a head of cabbage can go. It’s all compact there, bundled up in its little head. But then, you start cutting and it seems to quadruple before your eyes like those magic capsule animals from when you were a kid.

Broccoli Quinoa Recipe

What’s that? You missed me? Awww…

It’s been a 3 week hiatus here at Best of Thymes. Part of the absence was due to a much needed holiday break that included quality time with family and friends, noshing on scrumptious food and very little cooking on my part. There were a couple of times when I thought about posting a recipe or two, but the imposition of a strict ‘it’s time to give yourself a break’ policy got in the way. So, that explains 2 of the 3 weeks.
